Deadline for filing of Recapitulative Declaration Extended

Further to a meeting held between representatives from the VAT Department and the Malta Institute of Accountants, the deadline for electronic filing of recapitulative statements has been moved from 15 February to Thursday 25 February. This extension applies only to the filing of the recapitulative statement for the month of January 2010 for registered persons selling goods (or a combination of goods and services) where the relevant threshold is exceeded, and who are therefore required to file these statements on a monthly basis, and should not be taken to refer to any other declarations.

With effect from January 2010, recapitulative statements can only be submitted online. In order to submit the statement online, registered persons need to be in possession of an Electronic Identity (e-ID). The Institute is holding discussions with the VAT Department with a view to finding a workable solution for non-resident directors to obtain their e-ID with minimal disruption and utmost efficiency.

An information session will be held on Tuesday 23 February at 15.30 hours. The aim of the session, which will be delivered by Malta Information Technology Agency (MITA) and VAT Department officials, is to illustrate how the VAT electronic filing system works in practice and to address any queries that participants might have in relation to the latter.
