Franco Azzopardi was elected President of the Institute at a Council meeting held on 16 July 2015. Mr Azzopardi takes over from Ms Maria Micallef (MIA President from 2013-2015). His term expires in 2017. Mr Azzopardi was elected for the first time on Council in 2007 and has been re-elected ever since.
Upon being appointed, Franco stressed the importance of the Institute’s tag line, “‘Supporting Accountants, Promoting the Profession and Serving the Public Interest’. This is what we need to stay intensely focused on. I believe that we are extremely well-positioned and entrenched with strong values. What matters though is that we all use the qualities imparted by our professional training and standards to actively and consciously assist investment, economic development and fight against corruption and malpractice.” He concluded by expressing his desire to work enthusiastically with the Officers Committee, Council and the CEO, for the benefit of the Malta Institute of Accountants, “Your Institute.”
