FEE Comments on the Eurostat’s public consultation on the suitability of the IPSAS for EU Member States: Once International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) fully become a stable platform for public sector accounting, their implementation will enhance transparency, comparability, accountability and provide a basis for improved governance in the public sector. The implementation may be costly depending on the circumstances but it is expected that the benefits would still outweigh costs in medium and long term.

Long-term support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs): On 30 May 2012, the Council of the EU agreed on the main elements of the Competitiveness of Enterprises and SMEs Programme (called COSME), which is designed to boost the creation, growth and competitiveness of this category of companies across the EU.

IAASB New Global Standard on Assurance on Greenhouse Gas Statements: The International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB) has released a new International Standard on Assurance Engagements (ISAE) 3410, Assurance Engagements on Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Statements. This new standard addresses an increasingly relevant global assurance service in support of reliable emissions reporting, whether for regulatory compliance purposes or undertaken on a voluntary basis to inform investors, consumers, and others.

Fight against organised crime, corruption and money laundering: The new European Parliament Special Committee on organised crime, corruption and anti-money laundering (CRIM) started its work with an exchange of views with EU Commissioner Cecilia Malmström on the EU overall strategy in the fight against organised crime, corruption and money laundering.
View Transparency International is also active in this area and published a report on “Money, Politics, Power: Corruption Risks in Europe”. This report brings together the findings of 25 National Integrity System assessments carried out across Europe in 2011.

Networking for better CSR advice to SMEs: The EC will host a Networking Event for people who advise SMEs on CSR on the 12-13 June 2012 in Berlin. This international event, held in English, will bring together about 100 European experts and practitioners in the field, to actively engage in peer-to-peer learning and share best practices across Europe.

OECD Forum on Tax and Crime, 14 – 15 June 2012, Rome: This Forum brings together senior policy makers from different government agencies including the tax, anti-money laundering and anti-corruption communities, as well as private sector representatives, NGOs and other interested stakeholders. Participants will examine best practice approaches to closer inter-agency co-operation at the domestic level and explore how to improve international cooperation.
