IFRS Trustees publish recommendations on efficiency and effectiveness of IFRS Interpretations Committee: The Trustees of the IFRS Foundation have published their findings following a review of the efficiency and effectiveness of the IFRS Interpretations Committee. The conclusions of the review are consistent with recommendations of the 2012 Trustees’ strategy review, which advocated that the IASB should take a more prominent role in the consistent application of the standards. SMEs in the euro zone are struggling to get bank funding: Small and medium sized companies in the euro zone are struggling to get bank funding, with banks increasingly turning down loan applications. The results of a new European Central Bank (ECB) survey show that access to bank loans continued to deteriorate. View  In March 2012, FEE published a report summarising discussions held in a series of roundtables on SMEs access to finance that provides further light on innovative solutions in that field. View
 
Good Practice Checklist for Small Business: The checklist, published by the IFAC SMP Committee, can also be used by accountants, such as practitioners who operate in small- and medium-sized practices (SMPs) to help them determine what kind of assistance their small business clients might need. View
 
ECON Resolution on Financial Transaction Tax: The proposed financial transaction tax should be better designed to capture more traders and to make evading it unprofitable, says a resolution adopted on 25 April 2012 by the European Parliament’s Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee. The resolution also says the tax should go ahead even if only some Member States opt for it. The resolution was passed with 33 votes in favour and 11 against. View

IAASB Releases 2011 Annual Report ‘Foundations for the Future’: The annual report highlights the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB)’s work in the public interest to strengthen audits globally and build robust standards for audit, assurance and related services, and its commitment to enhance the communicative value and relevance of auditor reporting. Commission releases European Financial Stability and Integration Report: The report presented at a joint conference with the European Central Bank notes that resilience in the financial sector has improved in the aftermath of the financial crisis, and action is now focusing on longer-term growth goals, although vulnerabilities remain. View

FEE holds an Event on Integrated Reporting on 30 May 2012: Integrated Reporting is seen as a major development in corporate reporting. Central to Integrated Reporting is the challenge facing organisations to create and sustain value in the short, medium and longer term. This event will provide an opportunity for key European stakeholders to understand and influence change. The International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) will be present to provide delegates with a briefing and full update. For more details please access the programme. Networking for better CSR advice to SMEs: The EC will host a Networking Event for people who advise SMEs on CSR on the 12-13 June 2012 in Berlin. This international event, held in English, will bring together about 100 European experts and practitioners in the field, to actively engage in peer-to-peer learning and share best practices across Europe. View
