FEE Tax Day 2011 - From Policy to Practice - Highway to hell or heaven? : On Tuesday 11 October 2011, FEE will organise its second ‘Tax Day’ in Brussels. Commissioner Algirdas Šemeta, responsible for Taxation and Customs Union, Audit and Fraud in the European Commission, will deliver a keynote speech and many prominent experts will debate key issues in tax policy. FEE responds to the EC consultation on recognition of professional qualifications: The EC launched a consultation on the modernisation of the professional qualification directive. In its response, FEE supported new initiatives to increase the mobility of professionals in the internal market, including the proposal of a professional mobility card. View
FEE responds to consultations on anti money laundering regulation: The Financial Action Task Force against money laundering and terrorist financing (FATF) launched a consultation on the review of certain recommendations related to beneficial ownership, data protection, group-wide compliance programmes and a few other issues. At the same time the European Commission consulted stakeholders on the review of the third anti-money laundering directive, focussing on beneficial ownership, publicly-exposed persons and tax crimes as a predicated offence. The FEE Executive provided both the FATF and the EC with the views of the European accountancy profession on the proposals for reform. FATF: View, and EC: View
Use of options in the accounting directives: The EC services published a report on the responses received to the consultation of Accounting Regulatory Committee members on the use of options within the accounting directives. This report provides an update on the extent to which certain options included within the accounting directives have been incorporated into the law of the Member States and EEA countries. View
EFRAG invites companies to participate in the field-testing of the new standards on consolidation: EFRAG, in partnership with European National Standard Setters, will conduct field-testing of the new requirements on consolidation and joint arrangements published by IASB in May 2011. The purpose of the field-testing is to identify potential implementation and application difficulty, and to estimate the effort required to implement and apply the new requirements. The findings of the field-testing will be used by EFRAG in developing its technical and its cost and benefit assessment of the new standards against the EU endorsement criteria. View
EC reports recommends a study on the introduction of IPSASs: The 2011 Report on Public finances in the EMU was issued on 12 September by DG Economic and Financial Affairs. FEE welcomes the EC commitment to assess the suitability of International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSASs) for adoption across in Europe as stated in Part II of the Report. View
EC Conference on the Services Directive: Since beginning 2010, electronic "Points of Single Contact" (PSCs) have to be operational in all EU countries. These e-government portals foreseen by the EU Services Directive should allow entrepreneurs to get the information they need, file their applications online and receive answers from public authorities, be it at home or abroad. The European Commission organises a conference on 28 November 2011 to evaluate and explore the potential of the PSCs. View
