IFAC Calls on European Member Bodies to Make a Nomination for the Nominating Committee

THE INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF ACCOUNTANTS CALLS ON EUROPEAN MEMBER BODIES TO MAKE A NOMINATION FOR THE NOMINATING COMMITTEE
The International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) is calling on its European Member Bodies to nominate individuals to be considered for a vacancy on the Nominating Committee for a two-year term beginning January 1, 2012.
 
The Nominating Committee makes recommendations to the IFAC Board and Council regarding the composition of IFAC boards and committees in accordance with the IFAC Constitution and Bylaws. A nominee should be a senior member of a Member Body, with considerable international experience. The individual could, but does not need to, be a member of the IFAC Board. Prior service on an IFAC board or committee is preferred. Membership on the Nominating Committee requires a minimum of 200 hours per year, including meeting preparation but excluding travel time.
 
Costs of attending Nominating Committee meetings are borne by the nominating organization. The Nominating Committee meets approximately five times per year.

Nominating Committee

Committee Size:    President and Deputy President ex Officio, and no less than four ordinary members. An ordinary member has to be a member of an IFAC Member Body. No more than two ordinary members may be IFAC Board members.
Term of Office:    The non-ex-officio members’ service is for a period not exceeding two terms of two years.
Casual Vacancy:    1 IFAC Member Body member
Approval Required:    IFAC Council and Public Interest Oversight Board
 
Purpose

The purpose of the Nominating Committee is to make recommendations to the IFAC Board and Council regarding the composition of IFAC boards and committees in accordance with the IFAC Constitution and Bylaws.

The Nominating Committee is guided by the need for transparency in its decision-making process balanced with issues of privacy and propriety in order to maintain a respectful, fair and judicious environment. While it must have discussions amongst itself and other parties of a proprietary nature, it must also ensure that discretion is maintained.

The Nominating Committee seeks to achieve transparency via periodic reporting to the IFAC Board and Council regarding its objectives, the process followed during the nominations cycle, and any significant issues that arose as part of that process.

General Qualifications for Nominees
 
Professional Experience

A nominee should be a senior member of an IFAC Member Body, with considerable international experience. Prior service on an IFAC board or committee is preferred. A sound understanding of IFAC’s mission is required, as well as the ability to assess candidate skills and qualifications with a high degree of impartiality. English proficiency (both written and oral) is essential.

Geographic Balance

IFAC’s goal is to improve global representation among six regions of the world: Africa-Middle East, Asia, Australasia-Oceania, Europe, Latin America-Caribbean, and North America. The Nominating Committee seeks to have one representative from each of these six regions. To maintain a geographic balance, the Nominating Committee is seeking representation from Europe.

Gender Balance
IFAC is committed to improving gender balance on all its boards and committees. The Nominating Committee will strongly emphasize the selection of a female representative.
 
Requirements of Membership

Time Requirements
The Nominating Committee holds approximately five two-day in-person meetings and two two-hour telephone conferences per year. In addition, members spend considerable time reviewing nominations and preparing for meetings, and preparing and conducting interviews with selected candidates. Membership on the Nominating Committee requires a minimum of 200 hours per year, including meeting preparation but excluding travel time.

Financial Requirements

Costs of attending Nominating Committee meetings are borne by the member’s nominating organization. The Nominating Committee does not have technical advisors.
