Weekly update of EU Regulatory news for FEE Members

FEE conference on auditing 30 June 2011:  On Thursday 30 June 2011, FEE is organising its fourth high level conference in Brussels to address key issues in audit policy in the EU. The conference will be aimed at sharing and discussing the views of all relevant stakeholders in the European debate. Amongst others, speakers include: Michel Barnier, European Commissioner, James Doty, Chairman, Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), USA, Wouter Bos, Partner KPMG and Former Finance Minister of the Netherlands. FEE hosts Roundtable on integrated reporting on 17 June 2011, Brussels:  Integrated Reporting aims at making clear the link between financial and non-financial value and addresses the wider as well as longer-term consequences of decisions and actions. FEE Round Table discussion on “Access to Finance for SMEs - Early stage and technology businesses”:  FEE is organising the third Round Table discussion on Access to Finance for SMEs, this time focussing on “Early stage and technology businesses” on Wednesday 6 July 2011 from 09.30 to 11.45 CEST. The objective of the FEE Round Table series is to raise awareness of the challenges that SMEs currently face in gaining access to external finance in many EU Member States and to identify and discuss solutions. FEE/IFAC SME Regulation Debate:  On the occasion of IFAC's Small and Medium Practices (SMP) Committee meeting in Brussels, FEE is organising a SME Regulation Debate on Wednesday 6 July 2011 from 13.30 to 16.00 CEST. Professionals from FEE and IFAC will discuss the concerns of SMPs about the impact of European regulation on SMEs and possible solutions with invited guests from the the European Commission and EFRAG. FEE responds to the IAASB consultation paper “The Evolving Nature of Financial Reporting: Disclosure and its Audit Implications”:  Although the current ISAs provide relevant and detailed guidance, it appears appropriate to carefully consider whether they provide the auditor with the necessary framework for the audit of developments in financial reporting, especially in the area of disclosures. FEE believes that there would be benefit in an enhanced dialogue with regulators and enforcers of financial statements in order to mitigate the identified risks of misperceptions of the views of various stakeholders at regional as well as international level. FEE Tax Day 2011 - From Policy to Practice – Highway to hell or heaven?: On Tuesday 11 October 2011, FEE will organise its next Tax Day in Brussels. The Keynote speech will be delivered by Commissioner Algirdas Šemeta responsible for Taxation and Customs Union, Audit and Fraud in the European Commission. View

SME Envoys’ network in the EU:  DG Enterprise and Industry launched a new network of Member States' SME Envoys whose responsibilities are to advocate for the interests of SMEs in Member States. They will check the correct application of the EU law on SMEs and ensure that policies at national, regional and local level are enterprise friendly.
